Identifying peer-reviewed articles.

How do I know whether a journal or article has been peer-reviewed or is 'scholarly'?

Answer

Many academic journals are peer reviewed, meaning that the articles have been looked at and checked by academics in the same field so that they are of high quality and the finding are accurate. Sometimes these peer reviewed journals are also referred to as 'scholarly'.

  • To find out if a journal has been peer reviewed you can look it up in our e-journals list which you can access via the 'Find e-journals' tab at the top of Library Search (or via the direct 'e-journal search' link below).
  • Type the title of the journal into the search bar (eg. Journal of Psychology), the results will say under the title of the journal if it is peer reviewed.

To search for only peer reviewed articles, go to Library Search, type in your keywords and in the results page filter by 'peer reviewed journals'.
