Finding the right place on the shelf for the book you want.

Answer

The library uses the Dewey Decimal Classification system to group items on the same subject together. Items are assigned a classification number according to their subject and are then shelved in numerical order.

The classification numbers are always followed by letters which represent the first three letters of the authors surname. This helps you to locate a specific book when there are many books on the same subject with the same classification number.

Books are shelved in strict classification number order then alphabetically according to the authors surname.
